You may already be well aware of the wide range of valuable children's mental health and early childhood development services that ChildSavers offers. We are committed to providing these time-tested, effective programs to the children, families, and child care providers of Central Virginia.
We are also well aware that our reputation for excellence rests not only on the quality of our services (i.e., our ability to provide services that matter to people, and to do it well), but also on the quantity of people who benefit - an estimated 19,000 per year, directly and indirectly.
With that in mind, here are some recent service statistics:
During the first half of the current program year (July 1 through December 31, 2009), we provided direct services to an estimated 2,000 children, adolescents, child care providers, and parents/guardians living in Central Virginia.
For the most recently completed program year (July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2009):
Our Child Development Services program staff members conducted 75 trainings/workshops for child care providers; total attendance was 1,051. Topics included CPR/first aid and medication administration, promoting children’s social and emotional well-being, and playground safety.
- Through our Resource & Referral service, we completed 906 referrals for parents/guardians seeking quality child care.
- Our knowledgeable CDS program staff members also conducted 245 "van visits": taking our Mobile Resource Van to home-based child care providers in Central Virginia and offering personalized mentoring and resource needs assessment; helping providers develop lesson plans to extend literacy-building activities throughout their daily routines; and providing/loaning out safety, educational, and recreational equipment as necessary.
Our Trauma Response program staff members worked with 396 children, responding to 195 calls to the scenes of violent/traumatic events and providing 991 hours of therapy and psychiatric sessions.
- Our Guidance Clinic program staff members provided 5,459 hours of therapy and psychiatric sessions to 461 children and adolescents.
In addition to the people directly and immediately served through these activities, many thousands of others (e.g., family members, children in child care facilities, etc.) have benefited and will continue to benefit indirectly - and significantly. For example, each child care provider whom we train will work with numerous children over the course of his/her career, and each child or adolescent for whom we provide mental health services has a network of family, friends, neighbors, and/or teachers who benefit from the client's improved psychological and behavioral health. We are proud of our 85-year record of service to Central Virginia and deeply grateful to our supporters, who continue to make these programs possible.
